Fineart Wedding Album Japanese Binding is a handcrafted wedding photo album, printed on Hahnemühle cards and bound by hand using the Japanese binding method.
This is one of the new products that I am offering, I love prints, this wedding album is a little masterpiece and the photographs of your most important day are placed splendidly.
We think that the oldest known paper was produced in China using rags, around 150 AD. For five hundred years the art of papermaking was confined to China, but in around 610 AD it also appeared in Japan, and it was here that it started to be used for the pages and covers of books. Both the cover and the pages were pierced with holes and held together by means of a system of strings that ran through the entire thickness of the book. This seems to be the origin of Japanese binding, which over the centuries has evolved, offering many variants of hole piercing and string weaving, but it remains a “simple” and elegant way of binding volumes.
There are many variations of Japanese binding. The variation that I decided to use for your wedding album is quite similar to the one called Fukuro toji, a type of binding which quickly superseded all the others and is still regarded today as the most typical Japanese bookbinding style.
This type of binding is characterized by its pages which are like “pockets”, folded in half and sewn along the back on the open side. Primarily, this technique solved a practical problem. As the Japanese paper was very soft and absorbent, it wasn’t possible to write or paint on the back of the sheet since ink penetrates it very deeply, making it unusable.
The cover is made of genuine, soft leather and is available in many colors in order to satisfy all of my beautiful brides. The album will then be placed in a custom box, covered with natural fabrics such as linen, fine linen or silk, which are also available in a wide variety of colors.
So your wedding album will be just as unique as you!
